Research Verification & Intent Policy

This policy sets out our position on research-only purchase intent: what purchasers confirm when they order, what additional information we may ask for, and when we may delay, refuse or cancel an order.

Research-Only Purchase Intent

Materials supplied by us may be purchased only for legitimate research purposes, as set out in our Research Use Only Policy.

Purchasers must not acquire materials for human or veterinary administration, for self-administration, or for any therapeutic purpose — whether for themselves or for anyone else.

Purchasers must not resupply materials to a third party who intends to use them for a prohibited purpose.

Confirmation at the Point of Order

Before payment, every order requires the purchaser to confirm that the materials are for research use only and to accept our Terms & Conditions.

Placing an order constitutes confirmation of research-only intent. That confirmation is a representation made by the purchaser, and we rely on it.

Purchasers must also confirm they are 18 years of age or older.

Additional Verification

We reserve the right to request additional information before accepting or fulfilling an order, where we consider it appropriate to do so. Verification may be requested on a risk-based basis; it is not requested on every order.

Where we do ask, the information we may request includes:

  • The nature of the research the materials are intended for
  • The organisation, laboratory or facility involved, where there is one
  • The intended research purpose for the specific materials ordered
  • Confirmation of the purchaser’s identity
  • Confirmation of the delivery address and who will receive the shipment

What We Do Not Require

We want to be precise about this, because the opposite is often assumed.

We do not require every purchaser to hold institutional or academic credentials, and we do not restrict supply to universities, hospitals or commercial laboratories. Competent independent researchers may purchase.

Not every customer is individually verified, and not every order is individually reviewed. Where this policy describes verification, it describes a right we reserve and exercise where appropriate — not a step applied to every transaction.

Delay, Refusal and Cancellation

We may delay, refuse or cancel an order, in whole or in part, where:

  • Research intent cannot reasonably be established
  • Requested information is not provided within a reasonable period
  • Information available to us suggests a prohibited use
  • A purchaser has previously indicated an intention to use materials for a prohibited purpose
  • Supply would, or might, breach any applicable law or regulation

Effect of Refusal

Where an order is refused or cancelled under this policy, any payment taken for the affected items is refunded to the original payment method.

We may decline to supply the same customer in future on the same grounds. We are not obliged to give reasons, and a refusal is not an allegation of wrongdoing.

Records and Data

Information provided for verification is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and is used for compliance purposes and to administer the order. It is not used for marketing.

The research-use confirmation given at checkout is recorded with the order.

Changes to This Policy

Our compliance controls are being developed. Where we introduce further measures — for example structured research declarations at checkout, collection of purchaser type or intended research purpose, or documented compliance review of individual orders — this policy will be updated to describe them at the point they are actually in operation.

We will not describe a control here before it exists.
