Cerebrolysin

Evidence profile: Preclinical, with limited uncontrolled human reports

Cerebrolysin is a standardised neuropeptide preparation derived from purified porcine brain proteins, containing low-molecular-weight peptides and free amino acids. It is formulated to resemble endogenous neurotrophic factors, and the published literature examines it in the context of neuronal survival and plasticity. Study outcomes across the literature remain mixed. It is of porcine origin. Cerebrolysin is not an approved medicine in the United Kingdom.
